PREMIX
By their very nature, premixes are complex blends of ingredients, each addressing a specific need of the animal. Next to providing essential vitamins, trace elements, and amino acids, the composition increasingly contains functional ingredients which reflect the industry’s efforts in of reducing antibiotics and improving feed digestibility.
FUNCTIONAL FORMULATIONS
A broad range of functional ingredients is used in the feed industry. The challenge often lies in making stable formulations of fat and/or water-soluble components and making them dispersible or soluble in water or fat systems. Another topic of interest is preservation of functionality and the proper utilization of the functional components in the animal. An example of the latter is in the targeted release of the functional component at intestinal level.

Examples of issues which can be addressed at the level of the premix are reduction of the need for antibiotics with salts of organic acids, reducing the foaming or rate of sedimentation of milk replacer in which the premix is used. Another increasingly important example is making additions to enhance the digestibility of the feed in which the premix is used, or to mitigate the negative impact of sub-optimal feed compositions or changing feed regimes, for instance during the important weaning period.
We have ample experience in making stable formulations, either in liquid or on carrier, of the most versatile ingredients (e.g. organic acids, MCFA’s, aldehydes, essential oils). With our broad product range and extensive application knowledge we help our customers to create effective delivery systems for their functional components.
